Beaver Tracks

Beaver Tracks

The Beaver Tracks were first designed way back in 2010 to function as the drive mechanism to power the PSR2000 tank type crawler. While immensely successful, the tracks proved their worth in later improvements when the design was modified to work as an customized drive for a modular inspection platform which had the capacity to carry different sensor arrays.

Beaver Tracks incorporate a reinforced rubber construction with integrated planetary gearhead motors providing in excess of 12Nm torque. The tracks can be integrated in any number to create a modular drive platform with 2,3,4 and 6 tracks in a single robot but different configurations. Compared to the wheel based crawler design, tracks provide with an advantage of increased traction coefficients in excess of 1.4! Since each track incorporates its own drive module, it further simplifies the design part as the primary robot need not include any motor drives, H-bridges, etc.

Beaver Tracks have been customized to several in-house robot designs like the Marine Crawler as well as the extremely popular ORCA pipeline desilting robot.
